Amelia Island Lighthouse is one of Floria’s most important historical sights and a must-visit on any trip to Amelia Island. At a whopping 67 feet tall, the lighthouse is very impressive and a must-see on any trip to Florida.
A Brief History of the Oldest Lighthouse in Florida
Amelia Island Lighthouse is the oldest and most stunning lighthouse in Florida, constructed in 1939 by Winslow Lewis using materials from the old Cumberland Lighthouse. The lighthouse is located towards the northern edge of Amelia island in the town of Fernandina Beach. Today, Amelia Island Lighthouse is still in working order, flashing every 10 seconds to alert vessels at sea about the dangerous shoals towards Amelia Island’s southern end.
